If you’re English (or at least British), chances are that you’ll be rooting for England to win the 2014 World Cup this summer. But are they really good enough?
There’s been a lot of talk both within and outside the England squad that 2014 is the year in which England will shine – they have an outstanding team of players from some of the best clubs in the world so it’s completely justified! However, when it comes to playing as a united, national team, England have consistently failed to do well and to progress far enough to win the competition.
The last (and only ever) victory for England in the World Cup was in 1966 against west Germany – so if we’re just by past performances, it could take several more years until this happens again! However, in order to give you idea of the unlikelihood of an England victory in the 2014 World Cup, the folks over at Gruss Software put together an interesting graphic with 10 (strange) odds just as likely as England winning the competition at 33/1.
I don’t know about you, but I could never imagine Vladimir Putin being awarded the Nobel Peace prize or Emma Watson marrying Prince Harry! Well, these odds are just as likely as England taking the trophy in Brazil this year!
