The exact origins of fish & chips are still unknown, but one thing that remains certain is their continued popularity, ranking number one favourite for takeaway food in the UK. In the 1850s the first British chip shop ‘chippy’ was opened in Mossley, Lancashire and by the 1930s, there were over 35,000 fish & chips shops throughout the UK.
